About

Jeanette M Manning

Having previously worked in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying, my first book, "Walking Away From Hate: Our journey through extremism" co-authored with my daughter Lauren was published in 2021.  My second book, "Surviving Extremism: A Parent's Guide to Radicalization" was published in late March 2025.

Writing has always been a part of my life but it wasn't until a friend asked me to write his experiences from the Second World War, that I realized how much I enjoyed telling stories.

I also consultant for Toronto’s Yorktown Family Services, supporting parents whose children are involved in extremism and volunteer as a Family Support Specialist with Life After Hate, offering a family forum where parents can share their painful struggles in a safe space. As well, Lauren and I both participate in research, educational discussions, and various speaking engagements.

In my "spare time" I"m a foster parent, raising future service dogs for the Lion's Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. My second pup, Barley, chose to leave school and now raises puppies with me.

Mission

Families are being torn apart by extremism . . . but it doesn’t have to be that way.

My "mission" is to help parents and families navigate this new world of hate, supporting those whose loved ones are moving towards or already enmeshed in extreme ideologies.

Vision

Families don't have to merely "exist" when a loved one becomes radicalized. With the right tools, they can have loving relationships that stand the test of time and thrive in the face of extremism
